ASH 90 YEARS ON
In 1985, the village celebrated the 90th anniversary of the initiating of the civil body we now know as Ash Parish which took place in 1895. Prior to 1895, Ash would have been governed by Martock’s Vestry which was the parish “parliament”. The successors to this ancient body were the parish councils, introduced by an act of Parliament in 1894.
To celebrate the 90th anniversary, the village staged the ASH 90 Village Exhibition and a Souvenir Guide was produced. For those that have not already seen the Souvenir Guide, it contains a fascinating insight into the first 90 years of the Parish Council and the many changes that took place in the village over those nine decades. Amongst other things, it has a suggested walking guide of the many historical buildings around the village, some which date back as far as the 16th Century, with a brief description of each.
The Souvenir Guide was compiled in 1985 by Ken Gould, designed by Norman Seal and produced by Graffiti Advertising, Yeovil.
